salhiTehran, August 26, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Sunday that the United Nations is in dire need of fundamental reforms to meet the demands of international community.

He made the remarks in the opening session of the experts meeting of the 16th NAM Summit of Leaders.
Iran along with other developing and developed states believe that the United Nations as the biggest global organization formed from ashes of the World War II.
As one of NAM members and in coordination with other members Iran is opposed to any form of discrimination, armed conflicts, misuse of powers, rouge measures in global relations, violence, all types of colonialism and occupation of one's territory by foreign powers, Salehi said.
After six decades, the UN needs political reforms in line with the new global developments, he said.
"In our opinion, the UN General Assembly as the main and democratic organ in UN should take heed of its main tasks and establishment of peace and security in the international community.
"Many member states believe that United Nations Security Council needs reforms to be more democratic.
"Reforms in UN should be comprehensive, clear and efficient," said the Iranian foreign minister.
