lebnon armyA military court in Lebanon has issued an arrest warrant for a Lebanese major for smuggling weapons into the crisis-hit Syria,
The Lebanese officer, indentified as Major Wissam Abdul Khaliq, was arrested in a Beirut suburb while trying to buy weapons.
The major is reported to be a member of Lebanese army and son of a retired Major General. It has been also revealed that he has close ties with the Future Movement, which is led by former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri.

Damascus has repeatedly said that certain countries, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, are arming and funding armed groups fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad and that weapons used by anti-Damascus insurgents are being smuggled into the country across the borders.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Damascus says outlaws, saboteurs, and insurgents are behind the unrest, while the opposition accuses the security forces of killing protesters.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed militants are foreign nationals.
