yemanTens of thousands of people have staged a demonstration in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, to once again call for the trial of former dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh and his regime’s members over the killing of protesters,
The revolutionaries marched toward the former dictator’s residence on Wednesday as he was celebrating his party’s 30th anniversary in tight security.

Chanting anti-Saleh slogans, the demonstrators vowed that the blood of those killed in anti-regime protests during the former ruler’s reign would not be forgotten.

They also called for revoking Saleh’s immunity from prosecution.
Yemenis have held regular demonstrations in major cities over the past few months, calling for an end to corruption and unemployment and demanding that relatives of the former dictator be sacked from their government posts.

Saleh formally stepped down and handed over power to then Vice President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi in February 2012. The power transfer occurred under a Saudi-backed deal brokered by the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council in April 2011 and signed by Saleh in Riyadh on November 23, 2011.

Yemen is the Arab world’s poorest country. Forty percent of people in the country are living on two US dollars a day or less and one third are wrestling with chronic hunger.
